One of the big talent sof Canadian indie scene, Katie Stelmanis with her band Austra, have released the well received debut Feel It Breaks this May.

One of the big talent sof Canadian indie scene, Katie Stelmanis with her band Austra, have released the well received debut Feel It Breaks this May. After their modest European tour in June, they’re back this autumn as stars already. Katie is no newcomer though – semi-professional opera singer, with stints in the all-girl band Galaxy, lending her vocals to the hard-core legends Fucked Up and releasing her solo album Believe Me few years ago. All this has changed with Austra: Katie’s vocal skills mix seamlessly with synth sound, Victorian aesthetics and almost baroque moments. Although nothing of this is completely new – think 80’s new-wave inspired Fever Ray or Planningtorock – Austra’s music is exceptionally honest and solid.
