TALICH QUARTET

JAROMÍR KLEPÁČ – PIANO

Every year the festival presents a string quartet renowned in Czech or world music. After the Selesian Quartet and the Wihan Quartet, here comes the renowned Talich Quartet. Smetana’s quartet entitled From My Life is a sensitive composition embracing all generations from the beginning. Similarly as Beethoven’s Quartet no. 16, the music and composer reconcile themselves with life. This is a very romantic string quartet composed by Bedřich Smetana in 1876 when he was already deaf. The composition is his personal confession on how music went through all stages of his life. This work is considered the best aid for foreigners to proper understanding of the Czech nature. Jan Talich comes from a family which ranks among the most legendary of Czech musical families besides the Suks, Kubelíks, Škampas and others. Talich’s genuine sense for music uses all the emotions you can imagine. It is best combined with these compositions that are full of emotions. The concert will be held in the Suk Hall in the Rudolfinum, the most respected place for chamber music.

Bedřich Smetana (1824-1884): String quartet No.1 E Minor“ From My Life“
