Collegium 1704 / Hudební most Praha - Drážďany 2012

In 2012, the programming of Music Bridge Prague — Dresden will follow several mutually intertwining paths. The very first concert of the series, titled Roman Oratorio, is dedicated to the emergence of a genre that left an important mark on the musical history of Dresden. We will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of Dresden’s composer Joseph Schus¬ter with the modern premiere of his oratorio La passione di Gesù Cristo. Italian taste, which significantly molded the musical features of Prague and Dresden in the 17th and 18th centuries, will be presented in two guises. The music to be heard on the programme Virtuoso Concertos is representative of the repertoire of Dresden’s court ensemble, and the programme Prague Vespers will feature music that was heard in Prague churches in the first half of the 18th century. We are pleased that the Dresdner Kammerchor has accepted the invitation to participate in a joint performance of this programme, and we believe that this pro¬ject will open the door to further cooperation. We will not be overlooking the music of Jan Dismas Zelenka, the patron of the ensemble and the symbol of Music Bridge Prague — Dresden, whose last mass, Missa omnium sanctorum, will launch the autumn portion of the cycle. There will also be no lack of major opuses of baroque music, represented by J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion and Christmas Oratorio.
